NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY

Models: Sam M & Sophie

Photographer: NBT
Camera: Nikon Z9; Lens: Nikon Z 70-180mm f/2.8

TECHNICAL NOTE

Night photography is challenging for many photographers and beginners due to low light and the need to shoot at various locations while the models pose differently. Incorrect camera settings often result in blurry or underexposed/overexposed images.

For your reference, to achieve bright, clear and sharp images like photos on this page, the main settings on my Nikon Z9 when using the Nikon Z 70-180mm f/2.8 lens were:

- Metering: Matrix
- Exposure Mode: Shutter Priority
- Shutter Speed: Set between 1/60s and 1/125s. The camera will automatically control the aperture and will change it depending on the lighting conditions.
- ISO: 3200
- White Balance: Pre-set D1, Auto0
- Picture Control: Standard
- Focus Mode: AF-C (continuous)
- AF-Area Mode: Single-point AF or Auto-area AF with face detection
- Exposure Compensation: -0.3EV to +0.3EV
- Flash: No flash
- Image Size: Original 8K resolution. (Images uploaded to website: 4K. These are unedited, original photos!)
